Mars and Venus
Today as I
was going through my normal errands, something astonishing hit me. Not that I
have never seen anything like it before, I just never realized the idiocy of it
before. I was shopping in a used book market…very awesome place….and I walked
around and simply glanced at the bookshelves as I passed them. Walking passed
the familiar label of religion and spiritualism I began to notice a lot of
different titles, one for women, one for men and then again broken down to the
type of person you are. Really? Do we really need it broken down to idiot
levels? So, indirectly we are simply told not to bother thinking and attempting
complete comprehension by using our brains and hearts but rather being placed
in a child seat, bib in position and spoon fed. So are we actually thinking for
ourselves or are we monkey see monkey do, someone else’s belief. Have we truly
become a society of sheep?
So, the
thoughts begged the following question….what exactly in the Bible
differentiates men from women when it comes to worship or understanding? Is
there a different version of say the 10 commandments …one for Venus and one for
Mars? If there is I missed it. As far as I have ever been concerned there is
only one version and it applies to each of us as humans…brothers and sisters
that we should be. At what point do we stop comprehending what we want or are
fed and what it actually says? Are we really built solely for convenience? Then
what amazes me is that we continue to whine when things do not go our way and
it is never usually anything that is life or death. It may be something as
simple as nail color or hair appointment not going well or not being affordable
at the time we want it. We, as a society have become slaves to immediacy and
desires. Everything must be met and met now else we are not satisfied. Do we
bother to think how many people of all ages, races and genders do not get what
they want or for that matter what they even need? Do we bother to stop and
think on that? Of course not. Why? Because we are selfish.
It almost
feels as though we go through this world on a guided tour. We do, think and act
in whatever way makes us comfortable and leaves us with a satisfied feeling of
being in control. When we no longer feel that control aspect is when we
proverbially “lose it”. Yes, we lose sight of everything and can only feel a
driving force to trample everything and everyone so we can reach the top. But,
stop and think for a minute…what and where is the top?
In going
back to the original point, why must there be a version for every race and
gender? I get the social excuse of why relationships do not work….you know the
old adage that men are from mars and women are from venus, but must that also
translate into the way we comprehend? In other words, if the line reads “Do
unto others as you’d have done to you”…..how many possible understanding is
there of that phrase? I am at a complete loss at this theory. However, it must
hold true for people, as books are forever published for gender. This in turn
opens a whole other can of worms…..are we then discriminating? The Bible doesn’t,
but somehow we as the human race have managed to soak even this in our need to separate
and be the best. As harsh as this may sound, I have yet to meet a person that I
can confidently say is the best in life as a whole. I’m sure most would be
shocked to be told they are not the universes gift to mankind. Newsflash!! None
of us are gifts, especially in how utterly disgusting some humans are. I have
my faults and admit to them whole heartedly. I learn from others everyday…my
dogs included in this. I have seen firsthand the cruelty we are not just
capable of, but excel in.
The question
remains this….why is it we segregate from each other and learn only the aspects
that seem to be easy or suit us as individuals rather than take it as a whole?
My answer is simple, probably more simple than most will allow, but its brutal
honesty. We do so because it is convenient and allows us to remain a shell of
fake in our lives. So, bluntly it doesn’t make us have to think or feel
anything outside of our own boundaries. Sad, really….but ever so true.
