Religion and Faith
Is blind
faith something we should all aspire to? Quite frankly, I don’t know. Today
there are so many religions, beliefs, thoughts and a myriad of convenient
religious following. Yes, that’s right I said convenient. Why would I use such
a term? That’s very simple. It’s the blatant truth and sometimes that shock
makes us go into complete denial like it never happened. Save it.
Faith is
something we all have whether its in a higher power, our luck, or who knows
what one believes to soothe their soul. I m going to be frank in saying that
lately there have been more “pop-theology” than ever before. Pop theology
meaning just that. Invented beliefs and more so convenient beliefs for those
that say they believe but only if it is convenient to them.
No
religion is perfect, however, its not meant to be. If faith were that easy,
wouldn’t everyone be on it and believing? Of course. But faith is just that…a
complex, mixed bag of emotions and questions about ourselves and our faith and
what it is that brings us there. We are
not supposed to be sheep and follow blindly. Quite the opposite. We should have
passion and eloquence to question, argue, and search within ourselves and our
faith. We don’t get to pick and choose which aspects we like and will follow
within our religion and which ones we will bend or change or drop. That is how
pop theology starts and it doesn’t mean you have faith. That simply means you
are a conceited, self-absorbed asshole who could care less about faith and
religion but rather how to be an asshole and twist the Bible and your faith to
accommodate that.
Religion
by definition is merely a belief in and worship of a higher controlling power.
It does not by any means dictate what that higher power is or what
his/hers/their desires are. So, what does that tell us? That merely we all
believe in something greater. The term “we” collectively does not mean everyone
MUST believe the same thing. Faith at its truest is a personal relationship/bond
with whatever it is one believes in. That is your individual and spiritual
context within your own believe. You cannot spread that to anyone else.
Religion and faith should never be one
size fit all.
Deciding
who we are as individuals and where we stand in our faith should be personal
and passionate on a spiritual level. Keep it sacred as it should be.
“If anyone thinks he is religious and does not
bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless.” James 1:26
